Background
About Dr Joseph Sgroi
Dr Joseph Sgroi is the Medical Director of Origia and an obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist. He supports women and couples at preconception, through fertility treatment, pregnancy and childbirth, and beyond.
Joseph provides holistic medical care across the whole journey: fertility treatment including ovulation induction, IUI and IVF, then pregnancy and birth, whether that pregnancy followed IVF or was conceived naturally. His focus is helping women and couples achieve a pregnancy in even the most challenging situations, and looking after them properly once they have.
He graduated from Monash University in 1998 and then completed three years of physician training at The Alfred Hospital, focusing on endocrinology, diabetes management and cardiology. That background puts him in an unusual position for an obstetrician: he can manage a wide range of complex medical issues that sit alongside fertility or pregnancy. He has a breadth of experience in obstetrics, general gynaecology and infertility, and performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.
Joseph has held high office on the Federal Councils of RANZCOG and the Australian Medical Association, and continues to influence women's health policy as a media spokesperson on women's health issues. He sits on the advisory board of Tiny Hearts.
As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at The Royal Women's Hospital and the University of Melbourne, he mentors the next generation of doctors. He provides fertility treatment through Melbourne IVF and consults at Origia's Collingwood rooms.
Continually updating his practice with evidence-based research, Joseph is committed to improving outcomes for his patients. He works as part of a team of nurses, counsellors, scientists and embryologists so that patients are supported emotionally as well as medically.
