Privacy Policy
How Origia collects, uses, stores and protects your personal and health information.
Last updated: 5 October 2026.
Origia is committed to protecting your privacy. We handle personal and health information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles, and the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic).
This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to provide safe and appropriate care, which may include:
- Your name, date of birth, contact details, emergency contact and Medicare or insurance identifiers
- Your medical, obstetric, gynaecological, reproductive, family and social history
- Test results, imaging, operation reports and correspondence from other health providers
- Notes made by your practitioners during consultations
- Appointment, billing and payment records
We also collect limited technical information when you use this website, such as pages visited and general location, to understand how the site is used. This is aggregated and does not identify you.
How we collect it
Usually directly from you: in person, by phone, through our booking system or through forms on this site. Sometimes we receive information from your GP, another specialist, a hospital, a pathology or imaging provider, or a family member acting on your behalf.
If we receive information about you from someone else and you would not reasonably expect it, we'll tell you.
Why we use it
- To provide, coordinate and follow up your care
- To communicate with you about appointments, results and reminders
- To bill you and process payments
- To meet our legal, professional and insurance obligations
- To improve our services, in de-identified form
We do not sell your information, and we do not use your health information for marketing.
Sharing within the village
Origia's model depends on practitioners working together. Where it is relevant to your care, your practitioners within Origia may share information with each other, but only with your consent, which we will ask for explicitly. You can decline or withdraw that consent at any time, and it will not affect the care you receive.
We may also disclose information outside Origia to your referring GP, a hospital, a laboratory or imaging provider, another treating specialist, or where the law requires or permits it.
Storage and security
Records are held in secure electronic systems hosted in Australia, with access limited to authorised staff and protected by authentication controls, encryption and audit logging. Paper records, where they exist, are stored securely on site.
We retain health records for the periods required by Victorian law: generally at least seven years from your last visit, or until a child patient turns twenty-five.
Cookies and this website
This site uses essential cookies to function. It also uses Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement, which set cookies, to understand how people find and use the site and whether our advertising works. These record the pages visited and the buttons clicked (for example, choosing to book online or tapping our phone number), not your name, contact details or anything you type into our forms.
We have turned off Google's advertising personalisation features for this site, and we do not use remarketing: we do not follow visitors around the web with ads, and we do not share visitor lists with Google for ad targeting.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser; essential functionality may be affected.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask to see your health record or to have it corrected. Please put your request in writing to hello@origia.com.au. We'll respond within thirty days, and in most cases there is no charge for a simple request, though a reasonable fee may apply for extensive copying.
In limited circumstances the law allows us to refuse access, for example where release would pose a serious threat to someone's life or health. If that ever applies, we'll explain why in writing.
Complaints
If you think we've mishandled your information, please tell us first: email hello@origia.com.au or call (03) 9416 1586. We take complaints seriously and will investigate promptly.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Health Complaints Commissioner (Victoria) or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy periodically. The current version is always published here with its date of last update.
